The Nordsee pharmacy at the town hall
At first, the pharmacy was a seasonal branch of the Emden Löwen pharmacy. But then the pharmacist Wilhelm Lüpkes Bakker was granted a licence for a pharmacy, which moved into the new building opposite Borkum's town hall in 1883. The product range was specially tailored to Borkum's island location and the many holidaymakers and spa guests. As there is no specialist medical shop on the island, the Nordsee pharmacy tries to fill this gap by offering wheelchairs and walking frames for hire, for example.
Owner Handren Baituschi attaches great importance to producing his house specialities by hand. Among the most popular are the Borkum lip cream and the allergy ointment which soothes allergic skin reactions, itching and sunburn. The traditional island perfume Pyrola is also still very popular.
