Borkum's green lung

The Greune Stee ("green spot"), a forest artificially created by teacher Anton Scharphuis (†1947), is ideal for walking and cycling. The area consists of marshy, damp and sometimes very dry ground. Coniferous and deciduous trees and a variety of native plant and animal species have found their home here. Attention: After rainfall, it can often be very muddy. Cyclists and white-sneaker wearers are now warned!
