Rules for dogs on Borkum - What you should know
Dogs are very welcome on Borkum, but there are a few rules to ensure that all guests feel comfortable. According to the Borkum Hazard Prevention Ordinance, dogs must be kept on a lead all year round on public roads, paths, squares, the promenade and on cycle and hiking trails.
The obligation to keep dogs on a lead is particularly important in the quiet zone and intermediate zone of the national park (zones 1 and 2). During the breeding season from 1 April to 15 July, this also applies in the open countryside, including the recreation zone (zone 3 = beach areas).
Please note that dogs are not allowed in the tidal area, on school grounds, playgrounds and sports fields or on the beaches.
In order to keep our island clean, we ask you to dispose of your dog's droppings. You will find white dog bag boxes in many places, but the used bags belong in public rubbish bins or household waste, not in nature.
